My Fiance is paying child support for his daughter whom lives with her mother. We were told that it is possible to put all that money that goes through child support into an account for his daughter when she turns 18. Is this possible??? Is there a way where they won't let him because the mother may need the money? Does it matter if the mther is not using the money for the daughter but rather drinking and a drug habit? Please someone give me some insight on this matter. THANK YOU

The Courts don't care how the child support is spent. They DO care about whether it is paid or not. If you COULD (which you can't) put the money into a trust account for the child, we'd be doing the same thing. But, the fact is, the child support is due to the custodial parent (who often times is the mother) and she can use it for whatever she wants. I hope that your fiance is paying through the Clerk of the Court so that all support is accounted for. Do not pay by cash or check.

Please, just make sure that you're ready to take on all the baggage that goes along with marrying someone with children. If you're a "newbie" at this, get ready for some real eye-opening experiences. And unless the children are close to reaching 18, you have a long road ahead of you.

I suggest keeping all monies separate. Do NOT commingle funds.
