What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TX

Hi. I posted in another forum about medical collections. I thought I'd post here about credit repair and the legalities around it.

I have one account in collections- explained in the other post.

My mortgage is timely paid (direct debit) every month since its inception.

I really only hold two credit cards which also get paid in full and direct debit every month.

You would think my FICO score would be close to perfect- with the exception of the collection issue.

How can I legally get my credit repaired?

Pay your bill and/or wait.

whats your score? A collection account wether paid or not (just showing and under 2 yrs old) can lower your score by 20-40points

If you have the means, pay the medical bill but ask for a hard deletion letter so once you pay off the bill they remove it from your report, not just show it updated with 0 balance

After I posted my original question, I did go and get my ficos- they range from 772 to 801, so no big deal.

About a month ago, I went to one of those "free fico score" websites and it came back with a 668. I freaked as I know I closed a number of inactive accounts several months ago and thought that could have slammed my fico.

Anyway (and if you care :)), I called the collection agency, they gave me a 30% discount and I paid the bill.

They claimed to have sent me letters, etc., but to a previous address and were not forwarded. Go figure?

Thanks for your suggestion about the "hard deletion letter". That's very helpful.
