I have seen many posts of people talking about back cs and interest. How does the interest thing work? I live in Indiana and my ex is over 10,000$ behind in support. Not that I will ever see it, was just curious how they figure interest.

Here in Indiana, you don't automatically receive interest. It has to be written into a Stipulation. If you have no paperwork stating that you're entitled to interest, no interest is accrued.

That's how it's worked for us, anyway.

Some states automatically add interest to any amount more than 30 days past due and the amount is added to what is due to the CP. Other states charge interest on arrears, but they keep that interest themselves.
