Hi
I wanted to know just how much information the job can require me to show them in regards to my personal life.
I work the overnight shift at a hotel and go to school fulltime during the day, med school. Sometimes the job schedules rrefresher training sessions or a breakfast with the managers just to chat and see how you feel things are going at work. They don't give you a choice of days they just put you on the schedule for a day to come in for the training, its usually two weeks in advance though. Not that they would change the day anyway.
Since I attend classes I don't go to the breakfast meetings and only attend the training refresher courses when I can or aren't too tired. (if I can skip it and manage to get five hrs of sleep instead of none thats what I choose) If there is a conflict with a class I skip it, professors are brutal with missing classes or coming in late and I have labs that I can't ditch. I have no problem with showing them my school ID to prove I am a student but do I have to go as far as showing them my schedule?
Sometimes I have a class other times I don't but those hours I would spend still at work would mean no sleep at all that day before I have to go to class and then back to work for my night shift. So I skip it. They haven't said anything about it, but I think they sent the restaurant manager to try and get intel. I don't know her and she doesn't know me but said she heard I was in school and began to ask me how many days a week I go and when I was going to be finished etc. Just seemed very fishy since I had to reschedule a meeting that I asked for with HR due to a family emergency a few weeks ago and now classes have started so I had to cancel all together. So I think they may ask me for this.
I don't think what I do after I clock out is their business but since I don't attend the breakfast how do you do's and trainings I am willing to prove I am a student. Do they have a right to request to see my schedule. Not that I have anything to hide but its my private life.
Thanks
Oh and the refesher training isn't vital new info to be able to do the job its more like lets role play on how to be cheerful and exceed guest expectations.
