What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
Long story short, last year we found out that my divorce from 11 years ago was not completed. Since then I had to start the whole thing over again, hired a lawyer and so on. But now my child support is handled through DCSS so it wasnt on the divorce paperwork (am I right in saying these are two diffirent things now since DCSS takes money from my pay check?) so she never wanted to sign the divorce papers, and never came to any of the court dates. So since she never showed up the judge ruled it as "status only"
So my question is this.
If we didnt have anything to split up and I didnt have any 401k/retirement or anything like that, do I still need to compltete it? Is there anything she can come back for years later? I know if I complete it she just wont show up again and it will cost me more money I dont have.
As always, thank you for your time.
