Thanks for your reply. I had one more question to ask. Are you able to claim bad checks on a bankruptcy. We had some problems about 8 years ago with our checking account. I would think no because you can't claim anything from fraud. But we don't want to have additional problems after bankruptcy. We are seekng a lawyer as soon as the IRS sends us this tax break. Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure. Since it is illegal to not make good on a bad check and the merchant can demand recourse in the crimnal courts, I'm gonna guess they can't be discharged in bk. That's something I'd get answered fast.
Having a bank account is important in today's society and many banks report bounced checks to Chexsystems and they can use that info to deny you a checking account. If you have trouble finding a bank that doesn't use Chexsystems, let me know and I'll post a site that list banks by states that don't use Chexsystems.
