What is the name of your state? OR

We currently have a lot of medical debt, from our son that was born last year. He was in the hospital for a while after being born and after our insurance paid, we are still left with multiple thousands of dollars in medical debt. The medical bills right now are about ready to sink the ship so to speak.

If we pay them something every month, no matter what it is can they send us to collections or do we have to make our minimum payment every month in order to stay out of collections. We did agree verbally to a certain amount, but as of right now we're not able to meet that amount every month and keep a roof over our heads and food in the kids' mouth.

Thanks

have you appied for any type of state aid? First step would be to apply for Medicaid, and also contact the hospital's financial office to see if they offer any type of financial assistance (some states have laws which require hospitals offer "freecare/indigency" to eligible recipients, and some will offer partial forgiveness on copays and deductibles)
