I am an Army officer being administratively discharged due to a psychological disorder. Apparently the psychologist wrote the letter in such a way that I will not have to go to a PEB/MEB, but he highly recommended that I be discharged. The letter said my condition was severe. My CO has started the discharge paperwork in accordance with my psychologists recommendation.
Given everything that is going on, I agree with his diagnosis and recommendation. I have been having daily panic attacks and each day is a challenge for me to even show up to work. I sit there all day with an elevated heart rate, difficulty breathing, and a feeling of nervousness or impending doom.
This leads me to two questions:
1. Is there anyway to expedite my discharge? I've had numerous people give me timeframes for the discharge, and they range from 3 weeks all the way to 6 months (if a PEB/MEB is required, which I'm told it probably won't be.) I've read elsewhere that this type of discharge could be done in hours/days if the paperwork was walked around the base and signed, instead of being emailed or whatever they do. I don't want to ruffle any feathers and make people be less-likely to go ahead and do their share of the paperwork. Would the IG be a person to contact?
2. In the Army Leave and Passes regulation, there is something called "excess leave for a soldier waiting an administrative discharge", in which you are put on excess leave, which exhausts your accrued leave first, and then puts you on unpaid leave. Does anyone know how to get this type of leave? The regulation says it has to be approved by a "GCM authority or their designee" - who would that be? Is this type of leave given in cases like mine? Would a letter from my psychologist re: panic attacks help at all?
