My DH is about to go for Full Custody of his 5 year old son -- can the BM sue him for court costs if we win or lose? Or how exactly does that work? Any replies will be appreciated.

Yes, the BM can request that her ex pay her attorney's fees and other associated court costs. Whether she gets them will depend on the facts of the situation and what the judge thinks of them.
