What is the name of your state? DE

Can anyone provide clarification with the term of the eligibility "effective date". First claim was filed on January 16. Received 3 weeks severance pay on January 28 (noted on 2nd week claim form). Unemployment benefits can be received up to 26 weeks with an extension. Does the 26 week period begin when the initial claim was filed (Jan 16) or does it begin upon receipt of the first week of an UC payment? Anyone?

That varies with the state and I honestly don't know the answer in your state. I can tell you that in many states (I do NOT know if Delaware is one of them) it is the first day you file the claim UNLESS you are receiving severance pay, in which case it becomes the first day after the severance expires.

Have you checked your web page for your state's unemployment office? Often they have an explanation of such terms.

Yes, I did check the web site and it does not provide that information. I'll just try and get a hold of them which seems to be imossible to get a live person! Thanks again.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. I do have some state-by-state information on unemployment laws, but it's not quite specific enough for your question. Wish it were; that could be quite helpful!
