What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

Simple law question. A friend of mine who lives in New York has been subpoenaed to testify against his friends. Being all loyal to his friends, he doesn't wish to do anything.

Say when they put him on the stand, he refuses.
What happens to him?

Most likely the Judge will hold him in contempt of court and he will be put in jail.

My daughters father did 5 years for not giving up his friends.

Your friend must comply if he was served the subpoena properly, he could be jailed for not cooperating.
