What is the name of your state?Michigan and Iowa....My husband is a U.S. citizen and he lives in Iowa. He has applied for me (I am a Canadian citizen) using a I-130. We were given a receipt number and I just checked online to see how long it was going to take and it said such applications typically take from 990-995 days. Is this true? That's almost 3 years. Just wondering if anyone knows how long it usually takes.
Also, I have a TN visa which allows me to work in the U.S. and with that I work in Michigan, now if the I-130 takes longer then we had anticipated can I live in the U.S. with my TN and if so can then do a change of status of my TN even though we've already started the I-130?
any info anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

If you are already in the US, then why didn't you file the I-130 together with the I-485 and the supporting documentation as you would qualify for this one-step process through the local office. Filing the I-130 separately in your case was not the proper thing to do.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or if I may be of further assistance to you in this matter.
