I have been given an amazing opportunity to start teaching my self defense classes on a private level. Now the problem comes that I will start to accept money and fear that it constitutes having a business. I am 19 years old and would really like to know what my avenues are legally and what needs to be done on my end so I don't get in trouble! Please help

You'll have to go to the State Dept of Licensing and fill out a master application. You will be issued a UBI number & a business & occupation tax payment/reporting schedule. While you're there, ask when the next state excise tax class is & sign up for it. This will help you figure out how to fill in the B&O tax forms.

Since self-defense is dangerous, you might want to incorporate ($175 in WA, $50 in OR) and buy liability insurance for your business. You can find how to incorporate books at the library.

What about a waiver of rights, kind of like they sign a contract saying they give up their rights to sue and ect. How effective is that. My problem is that I will not be teaching full time and this would strictly be a side job.

Have an attorney draw up a waiver/assumption of risk form that emphasizes the dangerousness of martial arts even when taught properly.
