What is the name of your state?GA

I will try to be brief. Details:

Uncle who was my Mother's brother recently died.
Left will details with his attorney, executor.
Uncle has no children, but had 6 siblings. (Mother being one)
All these silblings pre-deceased him.
We were told will left 1/6th equally to them, with their share going to any surviving children of siblings.

Cousin who was closer than us to this uncle calls us, asking for exact names, phone #'s and addresses to send communications to to inform them of will. All this was a bit of a surprise to us. (Also a generous gesture) Close friend of uncle had POA, who knew these details, gave my cousin this info. I assume this lady's responsibility is now ended due to his death.

Now, does lawyer contact us directly to give us details? I assume this goes to probate with lawyer overseeing it. How long does this kind of process entail? We don't know who this lawyer is. Is it usual to just contact by letter, and/or being called to office for a reading for all involved?

I assume with lawyer being executor, things would go more smoothly with less potential entanglements than with non-lawyer? I don't really forsee any from other heirs.

These are probably simple questions to others, but we have never been involved in anything like this. I know these questions will be soon brought to light, but would like a heads up to this process.

TIA

Just be patient and wait to be contacted. It is the executor who has the responsibility for notifying beneficiaries, but either the executor or attorney can do it.

Normally the will is filed at the county courthouse within 30 days after the death, so if you are not given a copy you can go to the courthouse and pick one up.
