I have a garnishment against me which has frozen my bank account for up to 90 days. My problem is my employer requires direct deposit. I have no way of getting any money...at the end of the month I will have no money for rent and cannot pay my utilities, etc. And no money to live on. What do I do?????

Pay off the judgment.

Thank you for that intelligent answer. THAT was not the question. Instead of acting like you do why don't you turn the attitude and negative responses into something positive and try to actually help someone in the forums on this website. Posting remarks to try to make people feel bad is a waste of your time and accomplishes nothing. People come here trying to seek advice NOT your negative attitude!!! I have spent everything over the last two years trying to get the children of a friend who died in Florida. I have nothing to be ashamed of and have helped to return the children back to her family. I am not embarrassed or ashamed of what I have done. The collectors I have talked to all act like you--its a shame!

Open an account with another bank.
Look at the totality of your circumstances and see if bankruptcy is a viable option.
Un;ess you have friends or family that can help or, get a loan to tide you over you're stuck.
A good lesson for others with a judgment. Do something about it-don't conduct business as usual.

even better, ask for a paper check and then cash it at wal-mart for a small fee and pay creditors with money orders.

Actually it was. "What do I do?" Answer is pay off the judgment.

Changing banks will not do you any good. The judgment holder will simply garnish the next too.

There was nothing negative in my post. It was a direct answer to your question. Perhaps you didn't ask the question you really meant to ask. You asked for advice and you got it.

Great. And completely not relevant. 1. Their children isn't your problem. 2. It has nothing to do with the question you asked. 3. You know that or you would have included that in your original post.

That's a highly offensive thing to say. I believe this person IS trying. Like most people trying to make the best out of whatever situation they've landed in. For you to pass judgment like this doesn't make anyone on this board look to your advice as more sound, noble, or moral than anyone else's.

Perhaps they will pay the judgment, but need to worry about paying rent first? Perhaps THAT was the original request for help... what to do in the meantime, and how to juggle priorities with the added issue of a frozen account? Most people with any ability for empathy would have realised the intent of the original question, as I'm sure you actually did, despite the "captain obvious" answer that was offered.

People come here that are panicking, and looking for help. If anyone COULD pay the debts they have immediately, I'm sure they would. Yes, people make LOADS of mistakes and miscalculations, but being condescending doesn't help.

1. I pass judgment based on how someone approaches the situation. They attacked me. I responded. It isn't offensive. They need to start being responsible about the situation if they want to resolve it.

2. They didn't just land in their situation -- they created it. They have to fix it.

I am not going to molly coodle people. You ask and I give you the straight deal. If you want someone to hold your hand and softly whisper its okay, get a boyfriend or girlfriend. It isn't my job or my problem.
