This involves a house located in the state of Virginia.

I am joint owner of a house. The other owner has just passed away. I'm not exactly sure what I need to do to have his name removed from the deed, so that only mine is listed (this was my father). I am interested in selling this property, so I need to get this taken care of. I was told that I am suppose to submit a "Quit Claim Deed", along with the death certificate. Does this sound right? If yes, do you know of where I can find a sample of this form? (I've seen samples online, but they've all involved selling to other people, and not the removal of a deceased person's name).

Thanks for your help.

If you owned the property and held title via joint tenancy, then you are automatically the owner. Depending on your local recording procedures, you may or may not have to file the death certificate.
If title was held via tenants-in-common, the Probate Court would have jurisdiction.
