Can anyone tell me if a company gives you a raise can they take it away 4 months later?

Unless you are a member of a union or have an employment contract which deals specifically with wages, a company can promote, demote, transfer, hire, fire, cut pay, give raises, reward, punish, etc., so long as it is based on performance or economics and not on discriminatory practices.
