What is the name of your state? Michigan

I just discovered that my husband has named our children (one minor, one 18) as beneficiaries on his life insurance policy. He has named his sister and brother as contingent beneficiaries. He told me that it doesn't matter, that it would be paid out to me as I'm his wife. I don't think this is the law, is it? Also, what happens to the payout to the children, if one is a minor and one not? What is the best way to handle this if you want your children to benefit?
