What is the name of your state? south carolina

we have a personal loan that we had refinanced and we had gotten some additional money before the bankruptcy. the total amount is 5538.00 the amount of money we recieved right before we filed was $1489.00. the creditor wants us to reaffirm part of the loan. we had recieved this loan only 2 months before the bankruptcy, so technically it may not be discharged if they dispute it. we did not know we were going to file at that time we refinanced the loan. on the reaffirmation paperwork the creditor has stated we can reaffirm the new part of the loan which was $1489.00 and the rest would be written off in the bankruptcy since we did not actually recieve that money. if the reaffirmation paperwork says we are only reaffirming the 1489.00 is that all we would be responsible for. the creditor has also sent a letter stating that if we pay the $1489.00 the rest of the balance would be discharged and no more collection activity on the loan can take place. we are just wondering if this is a good idea or could they try to collect later on down the road. any help on this would help. we are just not sure what we should do.
