What is the name of your state? Florida
If a house loan was obtained prior to marriage and other name was added to mortgage at closing does the law go by whose name the loan is in and how long marriage lastet? Since the loan is only in one person's name and they were not married does this make the house assets prior to marriage?

Whether the house is marital property depends more than on whose name was on the mortgage -- the mortgage after all does not determine ownership. If marital funds were used to pay for the property then it is marital property and both parties are entitled to split equally the equity that accrued during the marriage.
