I am currently renting an apartment in Oklahoma with a 1 year lease that I signed 5 months ago. Recently my car was broken into. My window was busted out and a good deal of stuff stolen. I want to know if I can legally break my lease due to this? I informed the landlord of it. He said he would let me out of the lease only if he gets more tenants in the open apartments. However, this could take some time. Can I break the lease before that? Legally?
The landlord informed me he knows of the safety issues, and that a friend of his had damage to his vehicle while parked in our parking area. But none of the tenants were notified of the safety concerns. He even told me where is friend was parked, and stated he knew it was unsafe. Which is the same area I had my car parked in at the time of the break in.
When I moved in, there was a different owner of the complex, but a month into my lease she sold the buildings. The old landlord told me it was a safe neighborhood, which is not true. Many people in town tell me what an un-safe area I live in.
What are my legal options?

Thank you

NO you cannot break the lease.........

Your car's comprehensive insurance would pay for your damages, so file a claim.....

UH you got no insurance then its YOUR fault!

The landlord is aware of the place being unsafe, so what is he going to do about it?

2 car breakins dont seem like a lot, unless they happened in the same week, then action must be taken.....

Unfortunately it seems like, to break your lease you would need a few more breakins or an assults or robbery, to prove the landlord didnot do enough to provide decent security...

If you see crack vials or used condoms on the grounds that would probably enough proof to end your lease.

Also the landlord is correct if YOU can find new tenants to take over your apartment and sign a new lease you would be able to break your lease since it would be Illegal for the landlord to collect double rents.....

So have him start advertising the apartment and you show it and get new tenanst in there.
