I am a 55 year old California resident who is currently going through divorce proceedings. After a 26 year marriage, during which I quit my job to raise our son, my husband left abruptly this year. What is a reasonable monthly alimony payment in a situation such as this where the husband makes 125K/year (savings and possesions aside)?
My response:
Sorry. Your question, while easy to ask, is far too complex to answer on a Bulletin board. It's like asking, "How do I build a spaceship". It's not merely a matter of him making 125K per year, with a 26 year marriage.
I could write you pages and pages of information; but, it would most probably be bewildering and complex to read, for most anyone. There are far too many statutes that come into play, and far too many to explain with so few facts. As a matter of fact, it's so complex, that we attorneys use a computer program called "Dissomaster" - - a database based upon those statutes where yours and his monetary facts are plugged into the program, and the program compares that data with the applicable mathematical statutes.
You really need to see a Family Law attorney to go over all of yours and his financial data, to make a comparison with the statutes that would affect the two of you in coming to an actual figure.
Good luck to you.
