My ex and i have 2 kids together ages 8 and 6 and we have joint custody...he is the custodial parent...For the last 3 yrs he has let me have them every other weekend and sporadic holidays. Tonight he tells me that he is going to let me have them once a month and that the plans we made for halloween are off now because he wont let me have them. Needless to say im angry to say the least...I plan on getting an attorney somehow even tho im unemployed at the moment (and consequently behind on my child support) however i would love to know what "reasonable visitation" is in the courts eyes....any advice? Thank you.

From what I know, reasonable visitation would be at least every other weekend, alternating holidays, and a few weeks during the summer. If you don't have a schedule written into your order, it must have been assumed that the two of you could work one out on your own. Document everything and go back to court to have a clearly defined schedule written into the order. Courts do not like parents who keep their children from the other parent. Request as much visitation as you think is reasonable (such as e/o weekend, one day during the week, alternating holidays, and a month during the summer) and the burden will be put on your ex's shoulders to prove why that isn't reasonable. In the meantime, I'd keep requesting the kids as usual and just document every time your request is denied. Good luck.
