Receipt for Property

What is the name of your state? NC

my brother wants me to sign the final receipt for my fathers estate.
but i haven't gotten anything ..............my brother says to sign it and
then we will split up the proceeds after they are sold. but i know that
isn't going to happen.
my question is......can they close the estate without my signing this
paper behind my back somehow ?

i suppose it is a probate matter...but the property is not in my fathers name.....it is in my fathers name. all the money was in my fathers name and my brothers name so i have already lost out on that. the only reason he says
he will split the peoperty with me is because my mother (divorced) made him say it. the will said everything was to split equally....but the attorney i spoke with said that the estate doesn't include bank accounts and titles and deeds because of the way they are set up.
 
We are involved in this process at this time. Our brother is being very difficult and if he does not sign a receipt showing that he received his half of the proceeds from the estate, the clerk said we can not close the estate.

**A: what way they are set up? Could the attorney be telling you that title to the real property is via joint tenancy between your brother and your deceased father?

No they can't close it behind your back unless they forge a document.

Don't sign anything and you need to be talking to a local probate attorney to figure out your options. You should not be signing anything in the hopes that it will later be straightened out. You need some type of documentation from them showing exactly what you will receive.

I'm sorry for being confusing.
There are 2 mobile homes involved..one is titled in my deceased brothers' name and the other is titled in my younger brothers name.
He says that the mobile homes can not be sold until I sign the receipt for
property so the estate can be closed.
I don't believe this is true.
