I have been sued (small claims) by a former roommate for breaking our lease. The roommate and I mutually agreed to my moving out and her filling the room with a tenant of her choice, she was to sign on the new tenant and remove me. My roommate did fill the room and then proceeded to sue me for the rent anyway claiming there was no new roommate, that I had stuck her with the rent. The hearing officer awarded her the amount she asked despite evidence of the roommate existing b/c I had no proof of the new roommate paying rent. I understand that there are no appeals in small claims court, however do I have any recourse i.e. can I file suit against the new roommate in an attempt to get back the money I'm paying for the room being she's living in for free? I live in Arizona.
