I live in Nashville, TN area.
I’m trying to recover expenses for a Sept. 2001 job interview, actually (2 interviews) I attended in Ohio.
The interview was setup by a recruiter in Columbus, Ohio. He asked that I interview with him first at his location before attending (main interview #2) at his client’s Spencerville, Ohio location the next day.
All the above plans were made through emails from recruiter stating his client will “pay for mileage and a hotel that night”. Hotel reservations were made by his client, but I paid for room at check-in.
Next day; the job interview lasted only 70 minutes and I left without receiving an expense form from this his client company. I reported this to recruiter later that same day, he said “he would check into it for me.”
I returned to TN. same day.
Back in TN, recruiter told me, “this is not a problem, If I must send all receipts to his client or (to attn: of Plant mgr.) to take care of all paperwork.” As directed, I did send my receipts and a letter explaining all to his attention. Total due of Approx. $453 for all expenses, mileage, meals and hotel.
After 40 days, by email from recruiter, that said “client approved and sent to corporate for payment.”
After waiting another 30 days I called recruiter, and asked for update, or if I should Inoice him? With that question he said, “he has no responsibility here and I should pursue this on my own.” I emailed plant mgr. and explained my situation with concern, politely asked for payment or reason for delay. Resulting in no response.
Other than interview with client, I have never heard a word directly from recruiter’s client, or (Plant mgr.) but only have a Hotel bill with their company name on it. If not for that I couldn’t prove I was even there.
How do I inspire this company or the recruiter to pay me back? Do I go to small claims court in Ohio? Do I suit the recruiter too?
