My husband bought a house before we met. We are married currently, but have been separated for over a year. Now he wants to refinance his house, which does not carry my name on the deed and was purchased before our marriage. He is using a mortgage broker who also happens to be a "Divorce Planner" (though husband claims he has not contacted DP for divorce advice). I am being told I need to provide a lot of information, like my SSN and other credit info. Since he is a DP, I am naturally suspicious of the motives here, especially since none of this was mentioned 3 weeks ago when the process began and since everything I read says that property purchased prior to marriage does not fall under Community Property.
Should I have to sign any papers or provide any credit information in order for my husband to refinance his house, which does not fall under community property and of which he has sole ownership?
Please advise ASAP. Thanks!
