What is the name of your state? Illinois. Can a lawyer handling an estate refuse to send a letter that was requested to be sent upon the death of that requestor?

You should post this to your other thread. Don't start a new thread for the same issue.

And how do you even know there is a letter? This was not your wife's mother. It was the woman who gave birth to her. There is a difference.

requested

Did you not understand the question? Do you want to help people or just rebuke them? Answer the question or ignor it and go on your way.

OF COURSE he can refuse, but what are the contents of the letter and why did he choose to refuse? There may be a good reason why the attorney doesn't think it is wise to send the letter. Can someone else in the family do it?

letter content

The letter is a letter promised by a birth mother, now deceased, to her adopted -out child. That child is my wife. Is it legal to open a sealed letter like this or withhold it.
