What is the name of your state? IL

I had a guy drive by my house one few months ago and said that I have a damage on my roof and siding due to recent storm and Hails. I told him "Thank you and Bye as I was not sure If I should beleive him" but I had put call to my Insurance to come and check it out. But they said they have to open a claim i said "OK" but during the question they asked me when the hail/storm was came by " I told them there has been too many recent storms and I would not know when and what happened and told them I called becuase someone scouting my area and had told there was a damage which I wanted to get checked". They gave me two dates to pick when they have information about last Hails in Illnois.

Is it Mandatory for the Insurance company to know exactly the day of the damage ? Could there be a issue ? what would be way to go about it.

Regards

Ins. companies want/need to know the date & damage when setting up a claim. Some policies even contain a provision that the co. be notified of any damage within a certain period of time.
