What is the name of your state? California

Mold and leak issues found behind shower wall. Plumber gave landlord time frame of 2 weeks who then communicated this to me. They said they'd pay to put me up somewhere if I wanted to put it on my credit card. There were no pet friendly (my pet was acknowledged in the lease so is coming with me) extended stay hotels available for that specific 2 week time renovation time frame in the general city area. I asked my landlord about booking an Airbnb because it was available for the dates, had the same extended stay amenities, accepted pets, and ended up being cheaper overall than any of the extended stay hotels which was genuinely a factor for me as I've always gotten along very well with them. They said yes, to just send them the invoice. I am towards the end of the stay in this Airbnb, but still have not been reimbursed for the costs which are a large and sitting on my credit card getting ready to accrue interest. I have emailed twice about the status of repayment without any acknowledgement. How do I handle this?

In CA the landlord is only required to abate your rent for the period that you are out of the unit, unless your lease provides for additional compensation. Here's an LA Times article discussing the issue.

However, state law provides for compensation for temporary displacement from rent-controlled units in San Francisco (see CA Civil Code 1947.9). And there are similar local ordinances for some of the rent control areas in the LA metroplex.

Here's a directory for legal aid for landlord-tenant issues in CA.
