What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

The construction company that tried to fix my roof left a hole in the roof before they left one night that they worked on it. the following morning it rained and damaged a lot of my stuff.

the next day I talked to one of their workers and they said to write down everything that was damaged and to hand it to my landlord to give to them. i did this a few months ago and after this time of not hearing anything back from them i decided to write them a letter directly to their company asking for reinbursement.

i sent this new letter a week ago. the first letter i gave to my landlord was 3 months ago. i said i decided to write the new letter because i figured the landlord never gave it to the repair company.

so my question is how long should I wait for them to respond to this new letter before I file a suit?

How big was the hole that they couldn't see it? Your rental insurance should take care of matters...LL is not responsible because he had it fixed, the roofing company in their minds fixed the hole or they would have responded, but in the end it will still be renters insurance to pay for your stuff.

there was no hole to begin with. there was a slight drip of water coming into my kitchen i could catch with a pot. after the night they worked on the roof my entire kitchen was flooded. the leaking was so bad after they were working on the roof the fire dept. came into my building saying some alarm went off. they said there was a hole. the apartments maintenance guy said there was a hole. the roofer i talked to said there was something wrong with the drainage system they just recently installed causing the flood of water into my apt. so with all that evidence they're liable for it aren't they? i think a judge would rule in my favor so im not even using insurance to replace stuff. im confident it was their fault and a judge would agree. regardless.. im just curious as to how long you should wait for letters when it comes to stuff like this.

is it 30 days you should wait or 10 for stuff like this? also i sent a non certified letter the first time, if they dont answer should i send one of them too or just file a court thing to get this taken care of? im sick of waiting.. ty for the replies.

You send the letter RRR Certified mail to the Co. ( CC: a copy to the Landlord ). In the letter address it to the Co, and the Landlord .

Give them 10 business days after the receipt returns to you that they excepted deliver of the letter to reply and if no positive reply is received by you in that time period ,you will take all legal recourses that are available to you ( state that in you letter ) .

Remember your items are not considered new , but rather used and valued accordingly .

You'll have to show negligence .
