We had a relative living with us for about 6 weeks. During that time, some of that person's belongings were placed in our our home. When they moved out, they left some belongings. They came back to retrieve things and still left some items. One item left was being debated as to its ownership whether it was my relative or their soon to be ex. Eventually the ex said they could have it. Another relative went to their home to tell that person the item was being delivered to their home within the next 10 minutes. They left and the item was delivered by 2 other persons. When the item was left at their front door, the item was intact and fine. Later, they said the item was destroyed and the blame lay with us. They want to file a claim against our homeowner's insurance for the supposed value of the item. Is this possible?
