Contractor filed mechanic's lien against me in June 2000. In July I was also sued in small claims by this contractor. I counter sued and won judgment against him. His suit was rejected and I do not owe him any money. I did collect judgment from him. Court did not however address the issue of lien. How do I get this lien released ?
Contractor is not cooperative. This is in the state of California
Thank you.

You can attack this from two fronts.

1) Send the lien holder a letter, certified RRR, asking that he remove his lien since it is not valid. You can even mention that you might consider taking legal action against him for filing a fraudulent lien and 'clouding' your title.

2) Contact the county holding the lien. Show then a copy of the judgment invalidating any lien claim by the contractor. They might just remove it if you can show them it is truly invalid.
