What is the name of your state? OKLAHOMA
I would like to know if there is a form, or a court procedure I would have to go thru for relinquishing parental rights.
I am female, 26 with a 1 year old son. The baby's father and I lived together, and we are no longer together, or going to get back together. The baby's father, wants to terminate his parental rights, and give me sole custody of our son. I don't know if it's called "Relinquishing parental rights" or not, most of what I found on this subject, pertain to when you want to terminate your rights so someone can adopt the child, which is not the case here.
If this isn't the proper procedure, then what would it be called or how do I go about doing this to get this done and over with, so we can move on. He just wants to sign a paper and have it notarized, but I would like it "official" and legal.
Since, he is into drugs, and such (I won't go into further detail), it would be in the best interest of our son to have this done ASAP. He does not visit our son, provide support (he hasnt worked in years), or anything else that remotely shows he has an interest in him.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, just to get me pointed in the right direction.
BTW - This was the father's idea to terminate his parental rights, not mine. He wants to have it done, and I am not against it.
