There was a farmer who owned several acres of ground. He decided to subdivide the land. He named that subdivision Skieview Acres. The farmer and the other residents decided to contribute money for a sign to be placed at the corner of the main road and the entrance way to Skieview Acres.

He decided not to sell my property during that time period and the property was not part of that development to this day. I purchased the property two years ago. I liked the location of the property and I was not distured by the sign at that time. My property line stops at that corner where that sign is located.

The property where that sign is located on was the farmer. He gave a right of way to the county to establish a road to that development. The county gave township the responsible of taking care of the roads. This sign sits in that right of way. In this development there is no one appointed or named as director or a committee. All of the residents makes the decisions. There were restrictions guidelines established in 1963.

My question is that I would like to relocate that sign because it is a awful view to see from my living room bay windows. Also, where the sign is placed it is not a safety hazard. I just want a better view. How would I go about having the sign relocated within legal rights of everyone-included my legal rights. Please help.

Whomever owns the property [farmer] or was given an interest (via right-of-way) [county] in the property that the sign is located on has the say. Unless there are signage building code requirements, zoning restrictions or private development view channel restrictions, you have no say and no legal standing. Therefore you must ask (or beg) nicely like a good neighbor. If your view channel looks at the back of the sign, maybe ask the powers that be if you can paint the back of the sign to match the grass, sky or whatever background to blend in with the surrounding area. In the utility company industry (telephone, cable etc.) this is known as pole-painting mitigation.

In the alternative, suggest that they change their project name to Signview Acres.
