Recently, I allowed my ex-husband to move in with us. At the landlord's insistence, I had him added to the lease. We've now realized this will never work and therefore, he needs to move out, but he now refuses and is using the "my name is on the lease" defense. Is there a way to have him removed? I pay all the rent and I've lived here for 4 years. He's been on the lease for approximately 2 months. Please advise.

Thank you.

Did your ex actually sign the written lease agreement? Is the lease for a fixed term or month to month? Demand that he pay his share of the rent from the time he moved in or kick him out and I will come live with you. Especially if you pay all the rent and I get to bum around and be on the computer all day. Use the no pay, no play defense.

Getting him out may take some creative strategizing.

If he's on the lease, the only ways to get him out are to bribe him, to get L to evict him for you (for cause), to get a restraining order against him barring him from entering the house, or to make his life a living HELL until he leaves (without breaking any laws, of course). Start taking naps at work so you can get up at 3 am & play your Richard Simmons aerobics tapes REALLY REALLY loud as you jump around over his head. No one can withstand the Richard Simmons torture! It's worse than the comfy chair!!!! BWAAAAHHAAAAHHAAAAA

Yes Tracey, that Sweating To The Oldies video got to me so bad I even paid to move out. Another option for the tenant is to change your music styles and listen to only rap music in between sets of William Shatner does Barry Manilows Greatest Hits. Rap is cool. Feel the bass. You go girl.

Too cool, Guru.
