I live in Florida. The home I have a mortgage on was purchased in 1988 with my X-husband. My simplified dissolusion of marriage was completed in 1991. My X-husband was supposed to sign a quit claim deed before moving away, but he didn't. At the time it was verbally agreed between us the house was mine because I made the entire down payment with money from my grandfather and he hadn't lived here long before our divorce. He also received all ownership to a Kenworth tractor we owned together (actually I purchased that too, with my 20,000 college fund). I've been paying the mortgage myself for all these years. About five years ago, he contacted me and wanted to purchase a new home and couldn't because he was on this mortgage. His lawyer would not let him sign paperwork for a non-qualifying exemption. The reason I tried to get his name removed this way was because my credit was bad. Now it's pretty good, I think I can requalify by myself. We are not in contact, but I found the name of his lawyer (he has a criminal record) and his address on the internet. Should I get a lawyer or just try to contact his?
