What is the name of your state? Pennsylvania

there are 3 apartments in this building. The landlord called and said he needed to look at my toilet. I said ok. When he came, he handed me a rent increase letter. I am the only one getting a rent increase. is this allowed to raise only my rent? I need to know asap please or if I need to find a lawyer. 2 weeks ago he told me I better move out. I'll go into details if need be.

Are you on a fixed term lease (ie: a year lease)? If not, then there's really nothing wrong with this.

ok so it is legal for him to just raise my rent and not the other tenants? My lease specifically states rent increase allowed for my share of the real estate taxes and water and sewer charges if they go up. The same lease as the other tenants have. That isn't stated in the rent increase letter. (I'm thinking its a retaliation rent increase) and it goes against the lease rent increase paragraph. So if my share went up so did the other tenants!

Are you on a fixed term lease or is it a month to month tenancy?

If a fixed term lease, generally the landlord cannot increase the amount of rent unless the lease allows for it.

If the lease allows for an increase and the increase you were notified of complies with the lease, it’s what it is. There is nothing that says a landlord must increase the rent so it may be possible the landlord chose not to increase the others. As long as the increase can be supported by the lease, it doesn’t matter that yours increases but the other tenants doesn’t.

Why does he want you out? Do you have a lease? If so is it a yearly lease or month to month?

He wants me out because I told him that I would report him and the city inspector for pretending to fix the violations just because they are friends. But it's okay somebody above said it's legal for him to raise my rent and not the other tenants. It isn't fair but I guess it's okay. Thank you all for your help

What type of lease do you have? Please answer this question.

I have a lease that automatically renews every year unless written notice is given either by the landlord or me 60 day notice to vacate the premises

That part of the letter is legal. I was asking about was it legal to just raise my rent and not the others. I guess because he can't evict me but wants me out so by raising the rent he knows I will have to leave because I can't afford it.

If he really wanted you out, he could simply not renew your lease and give you a 30 day notice to vacate.

i answered that. i said that part was legal. letter is dated at least 60 days before, lease renews on 4/1 and rent increase starts 4/1. And he hand delivered the letter to me (altho under false pretenses that he needed to look at my toilet but that's life lol). Does this mean he has to give me a new lease to reflect the new rent?

He doesn't have to. But it would be a good idea for you to insist on one so you can lock in the new rent for a year if you decide to stay.

Though considering your issues with him, you would be wise to find another place to live.
