Rent payment using money orders

What is the name of your state? North Carolina
I was living in a large apartment complex for last two years, 2019 and 2020, and paid approximately $9000 as total rent each year. I paid the rent each month using money order ($750) which I purchased using my cash. The management of the apartment complex never objected or asked me any questions about that rent payment using money orders. Does internal revenue service (IRS) or any other government branch can come after me (directly, or via apartment complex) enquiring about these money orders? This cash was gifted to me few years ago and I kept it with me (never deposited in bank) and used this for rent payment as explained.

Why do you think the government would care about your rent payments by money order? Are you reporting your income correctly for tax purposes? Are you collecting government benefits (e.g., food stamps) that you might not otherwise be eligible for should the rent payments be included as income?

I read somewhere that money orders are treated as cash therefore I am concerned that the bank in which the apartment complex deposited my rent money orders may report that money orders matter to IRS, then IRS may come after the apartment complex and eventually to me asking for the sourse of the cash.

Really don't worry about it. How much cash do you think a large store deposits every day? Do you think the IRS investigates all of the shoppers?

The IRS isn't going to care that you paid your rent via money order. Nor is it likely that it will ever find out you used money orders to pay the rent. I can't think of any other government agency that would care either.

You paid rent of $9,000/year this way. That's not going to meet the currency transaction reporting requirements.

Anyone can inquire about anything. Is there some reason you think the IRS or any other federal or state agency would care that you used money orders to pay your rent?

Huh? No bank is going to be surprised that the owner of an apartment received rent payments by money order.

So...you've been keeping thousands of dollars lying around in your apartment? You obviously started with at least $9k, and it sounds like there may be more. Not a smart thing to do at all. Why are you keeping large amounts of cash in your home?

money orders are not the same as cash, as long as the person you made it out to has not lost it , once its cashed you can order up copies of cashed ones and staple to your original receipt portion of the money order and if ever challenged that you did not pay rent you will have copies, IRS doesnt give a crap about landlords who cash them to pay rent. If ever audited all they will care about is that receipts added up.
