My roommate and I will move out of our Rhode Island apartment at the end of the month. We've lived here 1 yr. For most of that time, we had a 3rd roommate, but then she tried to kill herself and became violent toward me. She decided to leave, and I didn't try to stop her. She agreed to continue paying rent, as she is still on the lease, since all three of us tried in vain to find a new person to take over for the last three months of our lease. She told me that she was going to stop paying rent 2 months ago. My prop. management company said, fine, your collective security deposit will cover the amount. Now, I've received a notice saying that all three of us will be taken to court if her rent is not received. I do not want this hassle, especially since my current roommate and I have always paid on time. I have contacted the former roommate and she tells me that she has no intention of paying her share. Can anyone help me clear this up before I move?

Then you sue her in small claims court and get a judgment against her and if she ever gets any money you can attach her paycheck..or bank accounts to settle your claim
