One of my friend rented a car, let a friend use the car and 2 days before the car was to be returned he had an accident and ended up in ICU for 5 weeks. He was unconscious until the last few days and doesn't know where the car is or where his friend is. His family notified the company that they do not know about the car. An investigator called and told them that if my friend didn't tell him where the car is, he would issue a warrant for his arrest. Could they arrest him? Should his family get a lawyer? Would appreciate your advice. Thanks

They can arrest him, but on those facts they can't convict him. If police show up, he should not say anything other than "Am I in custody?" and "I want a lawyer." Have him practice this in the hospital bed until he's comfortable saying it! Don't talk to police without a lawyer present. Auto theft is very serious. Your friend can't handle it alone, especially coming out of a 5 week coma!
