What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MD

I am about to get a property via inheritance that currently has a tenant in it. He has been paying rent to the estate. I will be evicting him as soon as the property is in my name. How much notice must I give him?

There is no lease. Apparently my father told him he would write one up and never did.

Your state landlord tenant links in your state govt web pages should provide that to information , make sure to send it via certified mail and if by chance the tenant doesnt get it and it comes back to you do not open, leave sealed in original envelope and keep it with your postal reciept so when you take the person to court the court has the chance to deliver it for you as the tenant attempts to explain to the court why they refused to pick up mail.
