Had my house broken into 3-4 years ago. Reported a few things missing. Found that two items i thought were stolen, were actually not stolen but elsewhere. Want to report the oversight to the insurance agency, but unsure of the laws around this. I'm happy to pay the difference, but wonder about repercussions.
What are the steps that the insurance company will take?
Will there be additional investigations? Are there penalties?
Worried that an innocent mistake will be viewed as an attempt at fraud. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
