My boyfriend and I rent a house on Long Island, NY. We split the rent and utilities, but he gives the landlord the rent check and all the utilities are in my name. He hit me very bad a few months ago and instead of filing charges against him, he has gone into therpy. Well he got a new girlfriend, via Internet, who lives upstate. They got together 2 times already and I am furious. He has had the nearve to ask me for deposit money for my half of the rent!!!
I gave that money to the landlord when we moved in, he just wants to make sure he gets his deposit money back when we leave in August. Over the past few weeks he has become very argumentative and he hit me last night just for spilling soup on the kitchen floor by accident. I know I should leave him but I can't aford to move right now. I can't aford the place by myself and I think he is trying to get me out and have his new girlfriend move in. If I file charges against him, I won't have enough money to pay for both the rent & utilities until I resolve a financial problem that I'm dealing with. Can I make a record of the situation, take pictures of my black-n-blue, and just have my attorney hold it without filing a police report? He has "used" other people that he has rented with before, and is very slick & controlling. He will try to use the law to his advantage and cause me to "make a mistake" in order to cash in on whatever he can get out of it. I know he has done this cause he has joked on how he got his new TV. I also know he got some of his furnature from another friend of his this way. HELP!

Get ut now! The financial side of this is a non-issue. If you don't have a friend or relative to stay with, seek out a shelter. Pack your bag and leave NOW!

Get out now. Phone the utility companies and turn off all services so he can't run up your bill. Get a restraining order against him requiring him to stay away from you. Inform the landlord that 1/2 the deposit is to be refunded to you and give him your parent's address. Leave.
