replacement carpet in rental??

Do landlords have to replace the carpet in a rental after a certain amount of time? We have lived in our great townhouse for almost 4 years and the carpet was old to begin with. It has never been cleaned, has NORMAl wear-n-tear but has got to go. Either thinking of moving or hoping we can get them to replace it. Any ideas?? THANK YOU!!!!!

Sure any landlord will be extremely happy to replace your carpeting, this week even, as long as you agree to an nice increase in rent to offset the cost.

But considering your lazyiness in NOT having it cleaned at least once a year , or buying a steam clarner and doing it yourself...expect the landlord to bill you for the damages.
