mom's old boyfriend left property at her house for over 10 years now sueing her help!

Help! Iowa is the state my mom lives in. My mother allowed her boyfriend to live with her some 10 years ago he has since been moved out of her house for more than 10 years now. While he was living their he put a garage in her backyard and stored some of his things in their. Over the years my mother had told him to get it out and he never did. My mother got sick and tired of it and put every thing out on the street because he wouldnt come and get it. He is now sueing her for all his possesions. He showed up at the house with the police demanding to get his stuff and my mom explained it was gone. I need help is their some kind of statute of limitations or something to protect her. It sat their for over 10 years now!! He has made a list of what he says was in their and wants her to pay for, How could he even prove what was in there? My mom tried to contersue and he filed his case as a matter of (replevin)
