To whom it may concern:

I am thinking about getting a Blank Firing replica pistol of a modern firearm. I live in Brooklyn, NY and I am very confused about the gun laws. These guns can not and will never be able to fire live ammo. I am underage, 16 to be exact and I want to carry it as a means of self defense. I will ofcourse not carry it in public areas and try not to carry it frequently. I am a Jewish child and sometimes I fear for my life due to backlashes at Jews for the 9/11 attacks. It would ease alot of weight from my shoulders if I can carry this firearm. Please tell me if I can carry it or pocess it without intent to do criminal harm.

As a minor, you can only have toy guns. Even if you could obtain a replica, the laws are the same as real guns. You would be required to have a concealed weapons permit and even if you were to just "flash" it to scare someone, the penalties are the same as using a real gun. I would suggest finding another method to protect yourself. Guns, even replicas, are nothing to play around with. Using your replica would probably end up getting you shot.

End up getting myself shot? No sir, I wouldn't flash it. Nor would I be dumb enough to have it in a place that is obvious. I just want it as a pre-cautionary messure. I read some of the NY city gun laws and it says that the laws do not apply to replicas. It was at the nra site. It had a very brief passage about replicas saying that the above handgun laws do not apply to replica firearms. I just want to make sure because I am very close to buying a replica legally and would want to carry it with me. I am hardly looking for trouble, nor do I ever wish to be in a situation that would render me in a mode to flash it. Knives are much more lethal than these replicas. The replicas also have an orange dot at the tip. Please tell me if there is anyway I can carry this weapon on the street for self defense purposes!

Don't believe everything the NRA has to say. Using anything (including your hand) to give the impression of being armed will get you charged with a firearm felony. You are asking for nothing but trouble if you feel arming yourself with a replica gun is going to help. At 16, you cannot legally own or possess a hand gun, even a replica. Too many people today think a gun is the answer to all their problems and in a wierd sort of way it is. A lot of them end up dying for no reason. I would suggest contacting a adult you can trust or even the police and see if there are any other options to your dilemma. Good luck.
