What is the name of your state?Ohio My car got repoed seven years ago and I still get letters from them. They called me today for the first time in years and thats what brings me to you. In Ohio how long can A collection agency come after you for A dept if in seven years they have not gotten any money at all.

They can try to collect until hell freezes over, but they can't do anything to you after the statute of limitations (SOL) runs out. The SOL in OH for a written contract is 15 years. However, after 7 years, the debt has been sold repeatedly to a succession of collection agencies and purchased for a fraction of a penny on the dollar by now. After 7 years, it can't be put back on your credit reports either.

Who called you? The original business to whom you owe the funds to? Do you have confirmation that the debt has been sold to a collection agency?
Ladynred is correct if it is a CA.

No the person who called me was from A collection agency and she said that they have had this case since 98. So my question is do I just keep telling them to pond salt. How do I get rid of them.

What is pond salt? Is it good for cooking? Okay all jesting aside, send the agency a formal letter to cease and desist. Some of these types of letters can be found at : www.creditinfocenter.com - This site also has other information you may want to review.
