I am on SS as well as a WGA pension and a Canadian pension, totals about $1500/mo. My income in the last 5 years averaged less than $10,000. In order to meet debts I take out bits of an small inheritance. In 2010 I sold a screenplay for $38,000 and beside taxes, etc, used it to catch up to a lot of debts, health insurance, paying off credit cards.

SS wants to take away $4780 from my $574/mo and I see that I can appeal it on the grounds that I simply cannot afford to lose that payment in terms of living expenses and necessary items.

I'm going in this week to plead my case and I am brutally honest, but wonder if they can access my inheritance since it is not taxable income according to 2010 law.

My inheritance is also in Canada and I did register it with IRS as required in August of 2011.
