Some of you may have seen my previous post "murdering while on a weekend pass" & for those who havent to make a long story short my 34 yr old nephew was stabbed & killed by a 16 yr old gang member who was on a weekend furlough from a juvinal detention/correction boys ranch.Well this kid started the fight that led to the kid killing my nephew & I got it all on video ect.ect.Anyway Ive been asked to write the DA on this case a letter stating why I believe this kid should be tried as an adult.We kinda doubt that any letters would make a difference but its worth a try.
Ok so now im wondering if I should research my letter,use a thesaurus,big words and get all technical in my letter or should I let the words in my letter be just as I would say them?Do I go into feelings about him being tried as an adult or do I lean more on the legalities & the fact this killing kid has priors?Im aiming for a powerful letter that will get noticed & hopefully results.Please anyone if you have any suggestions for how my letters composed I would greatly appreciate it!please & thank you!

Since the victim was Hispanic, I'm going guess that the chances of anyone at the party being affiliated with either the Bloods OR the Crips as being rather slim.

In any event, the decision belongs to the DA. And if you do write a letter, don't try to go "legal" ... I would recommend going for the emotional angle emphasizing the impact the loss has had on his kids and the family.

What Carl says is true, any victim's or witness statement should be their personal declaration of the facts as they knew them, there is plenty of time for legalese later. Also don't forget to contact the DA office re Victim's of crime for assistance and advice, this will allow for some compensation for losses related to this event including counseling. Also since this involved school aged children, you might contact the schools of the children so they can call the "critical event counseling" team even if school is dismissed for the summer.
